Citizens Not Welcomed At Cancun Climate Convention

United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change
Yet another annual international climate conference has ended with less than acceptable results. In fact, it became clear again last week that citizen involvement in Cancun, Mexico was generally not welcomed.

This is a time when citizen organizations are growing globally, demanding verifiable political will among leaders. To be shunned at such meetings will only fuel the determination to organize further. Common Dreams.org is one such group that will follow through.

Of course, 350.org was in Cancun in force. The kids you will see in this quick new video are full of enthusiasm and determination. The piece really speaks to me as an educator relative to the sentiment described above. They're getting organized. But I'm afraid their message may soon take on a more stern meaning: Get it done or get out of the way!

I would like to be one who walks the walk personally and walks arm in arm with youth together. There is a distinct possibility that we will be blamed for inaction in the future by our youngest generation. Harsh, but true. I don't want a reactive type of incentive to get us to work with kids. I'd rather get on top of the future now and provide wisdom of the elders.
